Dean Ambrose is WWE World Heavyweight Champion: We’ve Always Known What’s Next

Dean Ambrose had a busy in night in Las Vegas on June 19, 2016. The Lunatic Fringe outlasted Chris Jericho, Alberto Del Rio, Cesaro, Sami Zayn, and Kevin Owens to win the Money in the Bank ladder match. And he wasn’t done.

After the returning Seth Rollins defeated Roman Reigns to become a 2-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Ambrose pounced on the new title holder. He cashed in his Money in the Bank contract, carried out Dirty Deeds – his double-arm DDT finishing maneuver, and left Vegas the new champion.

Here’s where it gets really interesting.

When Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns were united as faction The Shield, it was predicted all 3 members would one day be WWE champion. But who thought it would literally happen on the same night? No one. Yet another remarkable chapter in their storied history.

It began with Ambrose reigning as United States Champion, the first of them to hold singles gold.
After his own Money in the Bank victory, Rollins cashed in for the WWE title at WrestleMania 31. An unfortunate injury prevented his reign from coming full circle.

While Rollins was away recovering, Reigns became a 3-time WWE Champion.

During both Rollins’ and Reigns’ runs, Ambrose was a contender. He made it clear he too wanted to be WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Also a former Intercontinental Champion, Ambrose remained a constant in the world title picture.

And, honestly, the world title scene would have been an unfocused snapshot without the presence of at least one member of The Shield.

An alumni of the violent Combat Zone Wrestling federation, it was only a matter of time before Ambrose’s reckless in-ring presence netted him the only singles title he had yet to hold.

Now that Ambrose has it, this brings us to a plot point in their tale many saw coming long before now. All 3 members of The Shield will go to war with one another in a triple threat match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
