5 Reasons Why Dying Light: The Following Is A Must Play

Dying Light is one of the most surprising video games I've played in a long time. I mean, most gamers expected it to be mediocre. It had been in development for a long time, and it came out in January (a month known for bad, uninteresting releases). However, it ended up being a marvelous single-player video game that came out of nowhere! It even was on my top 10 games of 2015 (which you can check out here). That's why I was extremely excited to play Dying Light: The Following. And after finally playing the DLC, I'm excited to tell you that The Following moves the franchise forward, taking what made the original game such an enjoyable experience, and adding cool elements and mechanics. Here are 5 reason why the expansion is a must-play:

5. Stunning Graphics

This one might not come to you as a surprise, but The Following's graphics are breathtaking. Seriously, some of the most satisfying visuals my PS4 has ever seen. The fauna, buildings, water, particle effects, wind motion, zombies, etc. You name it, it looks gorgeous! Plus, the expansion takes you on a new journey. With a map twice as big as the one in the base game.

4. Good'Ol Gameplay

This is easily Dying Light's biggest asset: it plays like a charm! I still can't believe how flawless the climbing mechanics are! The Following plays super smooth and fluid. Parkour is essential, as you complete missions while killing zombies and enemies. Like they say: if it's not broken (or boring), don't fix it! Plus, there are fun, unexpected easter eggs all over the place

3. Improved Story

If you see any of the reviews for the original game, you'll find out that the story wasn't very strong. It was a bit all over the place, you didn't care about any of the characters, and missions were too simple. And while I still don't love Crane as a character, the narrative in The Following is much better! Without spoiling much, it involves a conspiracy and people who are immune to the zombie virus. Thanks to the solid plot, you also get more diverse quests and an excellent ending. Feels much more cohesive.

2. You have an Awesome Buggy

This might be the biggest change The Following made. You can drive around in a buggy. Running over zombies feels great. But luckily, Techland went the extra mile, creating mechanics that keep things interesting. You can upgrade your buggy, making it stronger and faster. You can equip it with shotguns and flamethrowers. And yes, you can run out of gas... Running away from zombies in the middle of the night, while realizing that your tank is empty will have you screaming like a baby.

1. Generous Price

To be honest, I'm not sure why The Following is only $19.99. The map is bigger, the story is more robust, the quests are more compelling, it adds new, unique elements, and it takes about 10 hours to complete. I'd be charging no less than $30. But I guess the folks over at Techland are better human beings than me. Anyways, Dying Light: The Following is awesome! Go try it out!
