10 Most Anticipated Games of 2016

2016 will be an important year for video games. Big, important franchises are starting, ending and coming back. The new year is finally here, and there are dozens of games I'm dying to play. Literally. I decided to talk about my 5 most anticipated games of 2016. It started at 5. Games kept popping in my head so I decided to stop at 10. My point: there are so many games I'm dying to play. This list could be endless. So don't be mad if your most anticipated game didn't make the list. Also, I decided not to add PlayStation VR because it's more of an experience. But you better believe I can't wait to try it. Without further ado, these are my 10 most anticipated games of 2016:

10. Final Fantasy 15

Let's take a second to think about Final Fantasy XV. The game was announced almost 10 years ago. You read that right: 10 YEARS AGO! Fast forward to 2016, and the game is still not out. Finally, it looks like Final Fantasy 15 will be released this year. And at this point, I just want to know if it's good or not. This is one of those cases were the story behind the game's development will probably be more interesting than the plot of the game. Either way, I'm excited to finally be able to say that I played the game.

9. Doom

I have a soft spot for the Doom franchise. It essentially made First Person Shooters what they are today. And for the longest time, a part of me believed Doom would never come back. However, Bethesda and developer id Software announced a reboot, and I was instantly excited. After seeing the trailers, I can't wait to play the game. The sound effects, the visuals and the enemies feel exactly the way I would expect a modern day Doom to feel like. I already know this game is not about the story or multiplayer. It's about having fun, and shooting some shit. What more can you ask for?

Platforms: PS4, X1, PC

8. EA Sports UFC 2

I really, really enjoyed the first EA Sports UFC. Sure, it lacked substance, modes and depth. But the moment-to-moment gameplay was incredibly satisfying. Getting a takedown and knocking somebody had never felt that good. That's why I'm thrilled that we're getting a new UFC game this year. And this game looks amazing. Seriously, I believe EA Sports UFC 2 could be the best MMA game ever. Here are 5 reasons that back my statement up. Anyways, can't wait to score some knockouts in this beauty!

Platforms: PS4, X1
Release Date: March 15, 2016

7. Dark Souls 3

I won't lie to you: I didn't play Dark Souls 1 and 2. However, last year I decided to see what all the fuss was all about and I started playing Bloodborne. As soon as the credits rolled, I told myself: this has to be one of the best games I've ever played. One of the most frustrating video games ever, but also one of the most rewarding ones. I expect Dark Souls 3 to be just as good.

Platforms: PS4, X1, PC
Release Date: April 12, 2016

6. No Man's Sky

This has to be one of the most ambitious games ever created. At least in theory. No Man's Sky is basically an intergalactic Minecraft. The game has you visiting an infinite amount planets and galaxies to collect materials/resources. While I'm still afraid the game will be bland and repetitive, I can't help but wonder how good this game will be if it actually delivers on its promises.

Platforms: PS4, PC
Release Date: June, 2016

5. Firewatch

As soon as I heard this game's premise and saw its first gameplay trailer, I decided to stop. I instantly knew I couldn't wait to play the game. This one is a first person adventure game that follows the story of a volunteer fire lookout in the aftermath of the Yellowstone fires of 1988. And I truly believe developer Campo Santo has something special on their hands. The art style, the environment and the overall uniqueness of the game are fantastic. This could be one of those experiences that I remember for the rest of my gaming life.

Platforms: PS4, PC
Release Date: February 9, 2016

4. Mafia 3

Mafia 3 was finally announced at Gamescom 2015, and before even watching the trailer I was ecstatic. I was a huge fan of Mafia 2. I thought it was a great, different open world game with an amazing, emotional story. For the most part, I think Mafia 3 looks just as good, if not better! I mean, you just have to look at the setting of the game to know it'll be different (1968, in New Orleans). I expect the game to have an amazing story, soundtrack and graphics. As a whole, this could potentially be my game of the year.

3. The Division

The Divison was initially announced back in 2013, and while it has been a bumpy road, it'll finally be released this year. I can't wait. This is also one of the most ambitious game I've seen in a long time. It's Christmas in N.Y.C. when a virus kills everyone. Several years later, you have to find a cure alone, or with your friends. This one is bound to be one of the most immersive experiences of the year. If done properly, it could also be one of the best games of this console generation.

Platforms: PS4, X1, PC
Release Date: March 8, 2016

2. Horizon: Zero Dawn

I'm thrilled that Guerrilla Games is getting the chance to step outside of Killzone to create PlayStation's next franchise. They're a really talented studio. And in my opinion, this probably is Playstation's most important game of 2016. This one's not about celebrating the past. It's about securing the future. Horizon: Zero Dawn looks like a hidden gem. The setting, look and character models look stunning. I can't wait to see what this RPG is really about.

Platform: PS4
Release Date: 2016

1. Uncharted 4

I feel bittersweet about this one. On one side, we're getting our first taste of Naughty Dog on the PS4. This game is gorgeous, I and can't wait to see what crazy situations they'll put us in. On the other side, this game will be the last chapter in the Uncharted franchise. Therefore, it might be the last time in which we get to see Nathan Drake and company. Let that sink in. These games have been with me for a long time, and I'm not ready for them to leave. As sad as this is, I just hope the game is another 10/10 that concludes one of videogame's finest franchises of all time.
